http://commonsense.media.mit.edu/cgi-bin/search.cgi mit's open mind common sense program seeks to create a conscious ai by simply combining all known knowledge, data etc and eventually the robot will think. that seems a little simplistic to me woulodn't a mind have to have some structure or patterns for it to start thinking in addition to all that knowledge? i've been trying to think of things that would structure the mind but can't come up with anything...
Well, actually, the mind doesn't use a specific structure. No two people will have the same neural pattern even if they had the exact same knowledge. The structures are formed automatically with connections between informations. So, all it needs is a mechanism to relate all the knowledge in a coherent way that it can build on its own, and MAYBE it'll start thinking on its own.
