Hey guys, I'm in need of some inspiration. Does anyone know of any games that allow you to create your own weapon? I'm not talkin just cosmetics, but rather what the weapon does. FPS type of examples would be best. Thank you for your help!
The only game that comes to mind is Morrowind/Daggerfall, and thats by enchanting the weapon/armor with the players choice of a large number of spell effects.

AFAIK Close Combat: First to fight allow you to modify your weapon, but not design your own. You can add grenade launcer other sights etc.

Pariah allows you to upgrade the weapons with new features such as blast damage and plasma sphere (huge exploding ball of plasma) for the plasma gun and remote detonator for the grenade launcer.
Hmm.. There might also be Second Life, which allows you to script/create anything you want (even weapons) ingame with pre-made primatives. It may be closer to what you may be thinking about.
Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Doom 3... Many games that release SDKs allow modification like these.
Not quite what you want, as you use premade weapons and equipment, but you could do something similar to the mech construction in the Mech Warrior series perhaps. Alpha Centauri (TBS game) also allowed the creation of custom units using premade weapons/armour/equipment. As mentioned, several games allow modifications/upgrades to weapons - I'll add System Shock II to that list.

I assume he meant in game (or at least from within the game)?

Yes, I did mean from within the game. Thank you for all your suggestions so far!
