I find it very annoying in mmorpg's when people go around asking to see/borrow items to fight or take screen shots or whatever. I am very trusting and it seams 90% of players wont give it you back. Therefore i segest there should be a "lend" action with parameters like - return item if players go out of range - give items back if player leaves or dies etc. You cant trust anyone in a mmorpg.

It teaches valuable 'life skillz' though.

As in real life, when someone says "hello little boy can I borrow your tricycle?" they may not give it back..... It's a hard world out there.

but online its entirely different. Even if you have been playing with someone for years they may still take your million dollar sword.

Your hardly gonna say to someone in counter-strike, "im not going with you, i dont trust u, u might be a tker".

Trust cant be simulated in an mmorpg.

Also the only people who fall for the "let me see your sword" trick are noobs which really isnt fair. People may quit the game because of that.

You need a way of lending people your gear at mission critical moments and be sure youll get it back.

It would do much better to have a Transaction Trade system. That is in the same way an ATM will only give you money when it's debited your account, and the action occurs either in tandem, or not at all.

That way, if someone wants to borrow an item, you can demand some collateral, and the exchange will happen with neither party capable of stealing from the other.

You can be pretty sure that due to the very same reason (can't trust anyone) a game which uses this kind of system will see a fair number of scammers who will use this mechanics to "sell" items to clueless others, only to get the 'sold' item automagically back as soon as the buyer goes out of range or dies ... but still keep the buyer's money.
they have tutorials to teach noobs how to buy and sell corectly.
They dont have tutorials saying "dont trust anyone"

Then instead of implementing new mechanics you can simply make it first sentence in the tutorial, "don't trust anyone", can't you? After all if it's in tutorial then they should know better.

Obviously having a tutorial will not stop people from doing silly things, because most of your players never "waste time on the tutorials" in the first place...
"I am very trusting and it seams 90% of players wont give it you back."

They know they can get away with it. Game masters don't have time for people who are "too trusting" and just give their items out to anyone who asks.
Wow. That's a really interesting idea.

This can't happen if a dialog box stating that it is a lend is shown when lending occurs.

Well, I take that back.. if the world's greatest idiot decided to play your game..
