Non-violence + Violence , Both Choices?
If you have a MMORPG where you can choose to be involved in combat or non-combat.. will you play it ? For example, if anyone plays a tale in the desert or harvest moon. Imagine, at the start, you can choose to go through basic combat training or non-combat training. In the non-combat training, u will be exposed little bit of everything, example, farming, construction of buildings etc. Then after completing the training, you can choose to specialize in what you want. The players will then be given a choice of starting in different kingdoms and they have to BUILD it by themselves and defend it. If you play a tale in the desrt, you would know what that means. Adding on the non-combat part, comes in the combat part. Where you can choose to be different kinds classes etc.. these ppl will solely depend on the non-combat ppl for survival, like food, weapons etc, there will be no shops of any kind at all. All working together, the combat and non-combat people will work together to capture other kingdoms and expand etc, the game ends when a kingdom has successfully captured a certain amount of kingdoms. Then a new chapter begins and the developers have to come up with something new, like maybe "the war against the great" where all new or defeated players will form new kingdoms to fight against the winner etc.. and the cycle goes on forever, something like a tale in the desert... What you think of it? .. does it sound refreshing or just plain old boring ?.. The building part would be like a tale in the desert, you have to gather ur own resources, find a suitable place to set up ur camp or something like that, or choose a place to build guard towers. Since the world would be very big, there will be walls that will already be placed around the boundary of a kingdom , so that it does not confuse the player.. I have not thought of how a kingdom would be captured yet, but how does this whole concept sounds?
I like games that are possible to play in different ways (like this). One thing I don't like is when rpgs are separating people into classes and you have to keep on beeing that class until you end the game. The same goes with combat vs. non-combat. I think you should be able to be/do a bit of both as well as to be able to learn things from different classes. For instance: let's say you're trying to become a respected black smith. You don't usually figt, but you've heard that another town is planning to capture this one. You then sign up for a quick course in fighting (and get one level or so as a fighter or something). This way you can do different things and learn from them.. as well as change your profession entirely...
