no alpha channel in tga?

Well, I'm trying to edit some sprites with paint shop pro 8. The originals (downloaded from a tutorial) hsa alpha channels and were in .tga format. I edit them in paint shop, but they lose their transparency as soon as I load them, without even editing them, and when saved have no alpha channel either. However, when I use the GIMP to edit them, it works fine. Any idea why? Thanks!

I don't know about PSP8, but PSP7 has problems with alpha channels in TGAs (I.e. it doesn't read them or use them).
But if it works fine in GIMP, then it's probably a PSP issue.

Sorry if i'm jacking your thread but I'm having trouble making a car window texture in GIMP. I would like to edit the alpha channel to be a gradient( semi transparent on one end opaque the other) but I cannot seem to figure out how to draw on/edit the alpha channel. Any help is greatly appreciated.
