Advice needed for Rare Test + Interview
Hey what's up everyone. I am a third year student and have almost finished my degree. I started applying to several companies, and luckily have been asked to go along to a Rare test and interview. I was wondering if anyone who is currently working in the industry has had to go through anything similar? The interview I am not really worried about, but I am unsure about the test. Having only done programming at universtiy and some projects of my own, I am very worried that there may be many questions that I simply do not have a clue about. What sort of questions are asked on technical tests for graduate positions, and doe anyone have any useful advice for me?
If anyone could help me out, I would really appreciate it!
Yeup been through the Rare test. One thing to remember about that test is you might not know everything. It would be helpful if you brush up on ARM assembler, as I recall there being some assembler questions (e.g. how to copy from one area of memory to another). Also brush up on matrix algebra, and how it applies to Direct 3D as there is likely to be some questions on that. Finally be prepared to answer questions about the games industry, what makes a good and bad game, what games Rare have done and what you think of them etc.
Thanks for the reply. Do you now work at Rare? I figured the matrix mathematics questions would be in the test, but didn't think assembler would be. Is there anything else you can remember off the top of your head? Is the test a long one? I'd like to be as prepared as possible for the test, so any help would be great.
