    • Descent Freespace

    • Elder Scrolls: Morrowind

    • Neverwinter Nights

    • Enemy Engaged "series"

  4. Yes

  5. Mostly AI

  6. AI

  7. In my games of choice, AI fits the situation better to create atmosphere and get the story on. Also, humans tend to be jerks when set in front of a screen. But: carefully chosen humans tend to be better team partners.

  8. Yes

  9. Don't like human company most of the time.

  10. That depends on how you define AI. IMO (I'm in pattern recognition ATM), it'll mostly lead to technology that tries to adapt to its users, like building control regulating lighting conditions and room temperature after a learning period.

  11. A wide, barely defined field ranging from "simple" pattern recognition and learning to the never-ending endeavour of recreating human consciousness, with the first being definitely possible and the second probably not.

  12. C (think automatic theorem deduction), D. B only when limited to appranetly human.

5.Do you play multiplayer games?
yes

6.Do you play against Human or against the AI Bots or both?
Both

7.Which do you prefere?
Human, ones that are just a little dumb,... makes shooting them eaiser

8.What are the Pros and cons of human and ai?
Cons for AI, is 'learning' them, and finding out how they respond, and using it to trap them. Lack of conversation

cons for humans: Smacktards.

9.Do you prefer individual games?
no, both are good

10.Just a short answer why?
ahhh,... I'll edit the rest, got to run to class

6. Do you play against Human or against the AI Bots or both?
Both

7. Which do you prefere?
AI

8. What are the pros and cons of human and AI?
· Humans: typically provide a more interesting and competetive challenge, or a more dynamic cooperative experience.
· AI: allow the freedom to do whatever without worrying about having any effect on any sentient being.

9. Do you prefer individual games?
Yes

10. Just a short answer why?
I can entirely choose my own pace and methods and style without having any impact on anyone else.

11. Using your imagination, how do you think man will make use of AI in the future?
To obtain every benefit possible, as usual, whatever such benefits may be. And I believe it is likely that the uses are nearly limitless, especially in the realm of organizational and coordinating needs. However, eventually, I expect humans to no longer use AI, but AI to use AI, with natural humanity becoming changed, diminished, or extinct. (See Technological Singularity)

12. What is Artificial Intelligence in your opinion?
Depending on context, either A) a system capable of appearing to think rationally, by possessing actions that are similar to those of beings we know think rationally, or B) a system that does indeed think rationally, and was designed by another being (or beings) that think rationally.

13. Which of the following definitions of AI do you most agree with?
C. Creating systems that think rationally.

1) Will Knez

2) Male

3) 8

4) There are more than five, but the first ones that come to mind ...
Vampire The Masquerade : Bloodlines (PC), Dark Forces (PS1), Wargames (PC), Age of Empires (all of them) (PC), Jedi Knight : Jedi Outcast (PC).

5) Depends on how you define "multiplayer games", but I'll go with yes. Just not often.

6) All of the above.

7) Depends, as I usually just play by myself (with bots). The only reason I'll play online is to play against humans, but that's usually more trouble than it's worth.

8) AI - Agreed, the lack of conversation (human, not pre-generated) can leave a big hole, especially in long games. There's just no substitute for the garbage that people sling at each other [smile]. Also, the reflexes just don't seem "human", sometimes.

Humans - Pros are obvious, as are the cons. Playing against humans is different, because unlike the AI a human takes perverse pleasure in destroying another, and remembers it. Much more goes into a human vs. human match than a human vs. AI.

9) Yes.

10) It takes less work to set up, and less skill to play. I usually have a large collection of mods I like to play with as well, so it's usually more fun. In terms of time investment (as opposed to multiplayer games) there is none, since you can quite at anytime. Since the AI isn't human, no one cares if you lose or just quit.

11) What's depicted in Heinlein's Time Enough for Love.

12) In terms of gaming, a computer that attempts to replace a human in both gameplay and non-related interaction.

13) A & B.

8.What are the Pros and cons of human and ai?
- AI : (cons) predictable behaviour
- human: (Pros) can always outsmart AI

9.Do you prefer individual games? Yep.

10.Just a short answer why? I'm an individual guy

11.Using your imagination, how do you think man will make use of AI in the future?
- Make living nicer, easier, and relaxed for everybody!

12.What is Artificial Intelligence in your opinion?
- can do what the human mind can do? Solve problems etc.(I'm not an expert :D)

13.Which of the following definitions of AI do you most agree with?

C.Creating systems that think rationally. <---
1.Name - James

2.Gender - Male

3.How interested in games? 10

4.Name 5 of your Favorite Games:
a. The Elder Scrolls series
b. Thief series
c. Total War series (Rome, if you want a specific one)
d. Knight of the Old Republic
e. Warhammer: Dawn of War

5.Do you play multiplayer games? Yes

6.Do you play against Human or against the AI Bots or both? Both

7.Which do you prefere?
In multiplayer games, I prefer humans.

8.What are the Pros and cons of human and ai?
Human:
Pro: Flexible, More challenging
Con: Whinning from the players :P
Bot:
Pro: Easier to deal with
Con: Static

9.Do you prefer individual games?
Yes.

10.Just a short answer why?
I tend to like thinking/deeper games (i.e. some type of story, plotline, etc). Multiplayer games have not yet implemented this to my satisfaction. MMORPGs are getting closer, but are not there yet.

11.Using your imagination, how do you think man will make use of AI in the future?
Given that its my field of study, I'd say that humans will use it to help them achieve certain tasks which currently are hard or tedious to do (Refer to the three D's here: Dull, Dirty, or Dangerous)

12.What is Artificial Intelligence in your opinion?
Artificial Intelligence is the study of computer algorithms which can emulate the cognitive capabilities of humans (and more so these days, animals).

13.Which of the following definitions of AI do you most agree with?

A.Creating systems that think humanly.
B.Creating systems that act humanly.
C.Creating systems that think rationally.
D.Creating systems that act rationally. <---- This one is likely the best one
hey the wanderer (james), just read your reply. Can you recommend any research areas i can go into to help me along with my study? thanks.

Well, the first question is: What exactly is your study about? If you are doing a technology paper (i.e. A presentation on what is/current state of AI), then it is a pretty broad question. You can either remain general and touch lightly on the areas of AI that games use, like path finding, decision making, and learning (all of which apply to bots, which you seem to be interested in). Your other option is to focus on just one of these areas and go into the different techniques used for them.

For example, pathfinding has generally been dominated by A*, which is really not a good choice for most games. This is due in part to the fact that A* is not really a real-time algorithm. There are other variations which would likely serve as better solutions, among them being RTA*, LRTA*, and HLRTA*.

One thing I myself would like to see more in game AI is natural language processing, which would allow give the player more flexibility when interacting with NPC's. (In other words, you could talk abuor what it would be good to add to current AI).

Like I said at the beginning though, is depends on what exactly your question is. I think figuring that out is the most important step in your study.
