To me it was the extended gushing about the damn shoe.
Then again, I have no idea about the image attached to that brand. I don't live in the US, so if there was any reference, it went completely over me.
Would you design product placement into your game?
You never heard of the Converse All Star Chuck Taylor shoe before "I, Robot"... even in Chile? It is the most successful shoe in history having sold over 600 million pairs worldwide. Well, I wouldn't be surprised. The Converse Shoe company and its products have fallen on hard times. Hollywood does often include Converse shoes in films though due to the symbolism attached. Sometimes though, the inclusion is practical; however, the inclusion of an early 20th century shoe in a film about the future is more creative than anything else. Converse also has an extensive history with the NBA.
Nope. Maybe it's around, but I'm sure all that simbolysm is lost.
Then again, i'm not too big on sneakers (anymore), and I don't watch much tv. So maybe it's just me. I know the brand though.
Still, what about playing a flat out commercial during loading screens? and if it finishes loading before commercial is over you could skip the remainder?

Working on a fully self-funded project
Quote:This is onr thing I HATE about the way current load time ads are being done. Most of the ones I have seen are from online games or movies. The ads play as the game is downloading. This would be fine except for two things

1. I don't want to wait for the ad to download, and then wait for the game after that.
2. If I am done downloading my game, LET ME PLAY IT! phew, I am glad I got that out. I payed for a high speed connection to get my stuff faster, not to watch more of your commercial.

Well, I wouldn't do it like your example because it's too intrusive, but if I had a friend who was, say, starting their own clothing line, I could name a clothing store in the game the same as their store and use their clothing designs.
Would your friend give you money for this?
I could see it working either way, where the friend gave me money or traded me something else (the work done drawing the clothing, perhaps putting an ad for my game on the tag of each piece of clothing they sold).
I definitely disagree with Ravyne though, I don't think advertising in games should be optional, because making them optional inherently makes them intrusive.
I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.
