good program for writing tracked music?
hey guys, i'm looking for a good tracker program, bt i can't seem to find any that are both easy to use and versatile. anyone know of any that fit those qualifications? free would be best, but i'm willing to shell out if it means i get a good program. thanks.

Here are a few suggestions depending on what type of music you are after. THese are for the loop based multi-tracks, but Acid can be used for more than that as well. Is this what you are after or more of like something like a Midi-synthasizer of which you 'write' out the notes and such?

neither, actually. i'm looking for something with which to create MOD-type music; it's a specific type of format that is often used in game engines.

Modplug tracker. Thats what I used to use all the time. its very good and can export to all the major mod formats: mod, xm, it, s3m, and even mid now I think.

thanks! this seems to be exactly what i was looking for. i haven't used it to write anything yet, but just the interface itself seems promising. thanks again.

I'd just like to jump in and say that Modplug should indeed suit your needs, it's an excellent tracker program, and freeware to boot! Check out the resources on thier website, they should have some reasonable beginners tutorials if you need them. Also - look at the configuration options, you may be able to adjust any behavior you arent happy with.
