Multiplayer Game modes

I'm making a multiplayer side scroller shooter, and I need different game types. I currently have: Tag Deathmatch Team Deathmatch King of the Hill Bounty Survival Race Capture the flag Grab the special item

Capture the Chicken.

[I'm not sure if this is the proper name of it, but...]

I originally played this as a Quake2 mod. UT2k3 implimented something similar...

Essentially there is an object which moves around the map, which may be picked up by players. While in a player's possesion, the object gives players points [sometimes progressively increasing points]. If the player is killed, the object drops for others to pick up. The player may not shoot while holding the object/chicken, but may throw it to other players, who then cannot fire. The player with the most points by the end of the game wins. Note that kills do not count, only points gathered while holding the object/chicken.

Rocket Arena.

Give everybody highly explosive weapons with lots of push-back and no slef damage and watch them all fly round the levels at crazy speeds. I still play Quake III Rocket Area on a regular basis (weekly or more) and it never gets old!

Capture and Hold.

Kind of like the chicken version but you capture bases and get points for how long your team holds the base. Or you can make it one team wins when they've captured all bases. Another nice addition is if you make the spawnpoints controled by the territory so that you'll always spawn next to bases you own. Makes it good when a team only has 1 left to capture as their whole team will spawn close to defend it.

Instagib.

How can you go past instabig for accuracy fun? If you don't plan on implimenting a rail gun you could just make it one shot kill and then watch everyone scamble for the shotgun :P
Virus

I stole this idea from Timesplitters. In that game, one person starts off as the "virus"( complete with this cool green flame effect). If he touches someone then they turn into a virus too. The goal is to be the last person standing (untouched by a virus). The viruses can't use weapons but everyone else can. I played this alot with my friend. It hella fun :)
Assault and Secure
Elvis (great UT multiplayer mod where all player would play as elvisses who would continually grow fatter until they exploded... unless they made a kill)
destroy / defend
Big Winner (from soldier of fortune: all players start out with the largest weapons, with each kill you get a smaller weapon. The one who manages a kill with the final weapon first is the big winner)
Objective-Based (i.e. a mix of whatver comes to mind. e.g. blow up the bridge, capture the sewer tunnel entrance, capture the holy chicken and bring it to point A)
