Side-Scrollers Reborn.
I have a concept for a game and am looking for people interested in working on it. It will be a multi-player only side-scroller shooter. Basically just deathmatch with a few other game modes. The concept would likely be way to bland without adding some flavour. First of all I've been discussing possibility of a two dimensional physics engine. Basically having crates and stuff that can be pushed, shot, rolled etc. Second of all the possibility of slow-motion as seen in The Specialists mod for half-life. While in such discussion, it became evident that a primitive form of rag doll physics would be possible. When you die, you fall over in a slightly cooler way. Throughout my discussions in chat rooms and with friends of mine I've been getting fairly good feedback. I thought I'd post up here to see if anyone is interested in this project. I'm looking for programmers, graphics guys, sound guys... if you have some talent and are interested, e-mail me at raiseyourfistandresist@gmail.com. Sorry... the way I said that bit about ragdoll physics makes me sound like a moron. If you are reading this you know what I'm talking about.
lol. Don't worry, I think everyone knows what you mean.
The game sounds very similar to Soldat. How exactly will it differ from it? (By the way, if you are looking for discussion on the game itself, this is the right forum. If you are trying to recruit members to join though, I suggested deleting this and moving it to the Help Wanted forum)

The differences I would expect would be such things as the enviroment. In Soldat the enviroments are extremely simple, whereas I plan to have more complex maps both in design and in visual appearance. I'm looking at mainly indoor maps and more a open-ended multi-player experience.
P.S. This post is for the discussion of this idea. I'll post it again in help wanted for getting people.

I remember playing a side scrolling game that had a versus mode like this that was very fun. I can't remember the name, but i do remember it was either for the NES or SNES.
Basically you were in giant robots that were of varying shapes. Each one had a different way of moveing and shooting.
One would stick to walls, but couldn't jump. Another could jump high, one could aim etc...
It was an interesting game...i wish I could remember the name...I just remember one of the stages being very blue in color...:(

Metal Warriors = teh win!
Oh, man, I rented that game so many times I may as well have bought it. Even my non-gaming friends would wait in line to play the multiplayer in that one. Wow.
If you could get that kind of fun into an online side-scroller, you'd probably get a medal. It's tough for me to describe it well, but I'm sure the game can be found someplace.
I think one of the most entertaining features of a multiplayer deathmatch is usiing the environment as a weapon. The physics you describe could be used for this. I'd like to see a largely destructible environment.
