Banshee + XFree86
Ok, here''s a long shot...
I''ve noticed that 3dfx, or atleast some group of people, are working on OpenGL support for Voodoo based cards, banshee, v2, etc for Linux/XFree86. I havent tested this out yet, because of my slow connection and having to update XFree86 which is quite a large download (for me). Anyone here own a Banshee, and have OpenGL acceleration going with it under Linux/XFree86? I''d be interested to hear how it works, and whether or not windowed acceleration is working as well.
I used to have a 3dfx together with a regular vid card on my previous computer.(I switched to a GeForce which rocks except for non-open source drivers)
There is allways GLide, which i believe is a special subset of OGL developed specially for 3dfx chipsets. It worked pretty good with linux, though only from console.
The main problem with my old 3dfx was that it was fullscreen or nothing basicly. Through alot of research on the net I found a ''rumor'' that there was a way (very alpha) to render to a window (this was back with XFree86 3.1)...
What I used for OGL support then was a lib named Mesa, which is a ''unofficial'' Software-OpenGL implementation.
I''m not sure about later 3dfx cards wether they actually can reder to a window (i should think so).
Mesa is now more or less incorporated in XFree 4.x and can support certain hardware acceleration.
As you see I''m not 100% sure of much here, but I recomment you check out http://www.xfree86.org/ and http://www.mesa3d.org/
for more accurate info.

Yeah, I''ve already checked out linux.3dfx.com, XFree86.org, and mesa''s page. I just wasn''t sure or not whether windowed acceleration is supported for the banshee or not. btw, the voodoo banshee, vooodoo 3, 4, 5, etc all support windowed acceleration. Althow, it''s not really OpenGL.. Just a OpenGL -> Glide wrapper :-(. I''ve actually got windowed acceleration going in windows, works pretty well, althow it''s a tad slower then fullscreen modes.. Which is to be expected.

I had a banshee in linux for a while (got a geforce now). Most of the mesa demos were windowed and they worked fine. Also quake3 ran quite well in fullscreen and a window. The problem I had was that my banshee is one with slower than normal ram so anything newer than xfree 3.3 would go all wavy and flicker. But it does work.
