You certainly did, well done. You also learned a very important lesson. The first offer a company makes is whatever they think you will accept. Even if they tell you that they wont negotiate they almost always will. Sometimes it is more money, other time just changes in the contract but there is almost always room to negotiate.

If a company won't negotiate or won't behave in a decent manner (such as not providing the terms) before you sign the contract they certainly won't suddenly become a nice company when you do sign. They will most likely make your working life miserable so you really shouldn't work with them at all.

If a company is a good company they will negotiate and they will almost certainly respect you more if you at least try to get a better deal.

I hope you can resolve the non-compete issue and get to work with the company.

My current job pays a lot more than they are willing to pay. I was willing to make a small compromise but definitely neither am I desperately in need of new job nor am I going to be desperate to get into the game industry. My current company looks like its willing to move me into software development. Considering that they are more decent with their terms and conditions, and I am happy with the work environment I mostly will consider their offer a lot more seriously than the other one.

Thanks
The more applications I write, more I find out how less I know
