Looking for Research topic Ideas

I’m low on ideas for research topics in Cappella Corporation and thought I’d get some feedback from the gamedev community. I have all the biological research topics I need - at present there are 58 theoretical research topics, including 4 zombies, and 12 Biomutants - but what I’m looking for are non biological research topics, these are topics that can’t be researched by the player and must instead be acquired through other means. The different divisions are at present. Electronics Metallurgy Ordinances Non researchable topics fall into one of the following categories. Security Measure These are security measures used to detect and repel hostiles within a facility Example: Radio frequencies tags DNA scanners … Tactical Gear These are equipment used by commandos during missions and facility defence Example: Injector rifles Flame throwers … Facility Equipment These are equipment used within a facility for a verity of things. Examples: Portable Suspension Tanks Carbon nanotube restraints … Hybrids These are topics that allow you to create hybrid bio weapons which are a blend of organic and inorganic materials. Examples: Neural Wiring Bone Metal Failsafes These are special devices fitted into a facility that can be activated as last resort to hopefully contain and destroy anything within the facility. Examples: Nuclear Device Other This covers anything that can’t easily be classified White Queen AI controller

There may be biological sensors within the airducks and hallways to detect viral or biological contamination of an area. I will also assume that Security Measures also includes defensive and offensive equipment to help contain and prevent hostile incursion and escape of viral contaminance. Things like wall mounted defensive weapons like lasers and miniguns, Personal Scanners (think metal detectors at an airport), security droids, Electrical Barriers to prevent escape of biological entities. If any of the detection systems are activated, a "Lockdown' protocal can be used to seal off Labs and other area's of the facility to prevent the spread of the contamination, requiring overide codes to open them.

I would assume there would also be surgical tables, sealed examination chambers, electron microscopes, and equipment used for genetic manipulation. As well as incubators to develope bacterial and cellular cultures, and of course, computers.

Those examples seem more like biological implants than hybrid weapons. But if you need examples of those, then Deus Ex is chocked full of them. With things like Regeneration, Balistic Shields, EMP Shield, Muscle Simulators for speed/jumping, Adrenaline Augmentation for increased strength, Ocular Implants for multiple visual modes and targeting abilities, Aqualung for increased underwater survival, Energy Reciprocator (heart implant) for producing electrical energy, Dermal cloaking devices, Toxin Shields, Electronic cloaking devices, assorted weapon devices used for EMP and electrical discharges, the list goes on. But you'll want to make sure one implant doesn't render others redundant, a mistake Deus Ex made with Regeneration towards Aqualung, toxin/balistic shield.

I can't talk for most Corporate research facilities, but they might perfer a Neutron Bomb, as Neutron Bombs destroy all living tissue within a given radius, leaving the facility intact. The factilies existence would be compromised, so they might perfer a nuke to destroy all the evidence, but then again they would have to explain why a nuclear explosion went off in one of their labs.

Other than these, i would suggest you play games like Resident Evil, Parasite Eve, and even Dino Crisis, for idea's related to corporate labs and facilities.

Apart from the X44 bus which would be a devestating weapon of last resort, especially when it's late and freezing cold.

gravity reduction drones (small enough to fly around buildings) (you can actually make these quite easily in real life, as long as you have access to lots of electreicity), or in the outside world sould be gunships etc.

so reasearch topics:
anti-gravity
dimensional-warping (eg becoming like a ghost and transporting through walls)
energy weapons (leathal and none-leathal)
directed sonics eg directed sound weapons

I may think of some more
