The X Wins
Hello
Admittedly, I was totaly wrong for critisising Linux in my previous post (The Giant Linux XP). I have just installed Quake 3 Arena and run it, and it runs fas like hell, not to mention that it loads fast, compared to Windows. I was really astonished by the fact that Linux can turn Windows into office platform only. I wounder why few developers are targeting Windows, or at least choosing Direct3D over a more portable code with OpenGL?
My conclusion is that the X Windows system is fast and low-level as DirectX in terms of input handling, right?
Well, I wouldn't call x windows as "fast and low level" as directx for anything. :) But it's a hell of a lot faster/low level/better designed than GDI.
Mouse/keyboard input doesn't paricularly need a super low level interface, and devices like joysticks have their own low level api that avoids X and goes straight to the kernel.
