Fruity Pants
I need some opinions on removing the, ahem, fruitiness from some clothes I recently modeled. One of my friends suggests they look a little odd. I have nothing against fruity guys, but that's not the style I was aiming for, heheh. The character was made unproportional on purpose. Yep, he's got a really skinny abdomen. But that's the look I'm going for. What I'm most interested in is hearing opinions on whether or not these clothes look fruity ([lol]), and if so, how to remove some fruitiness from them. Or you can see here. If Geocities will even work for ya. Any suggestions? EDIT: thanks to Wolfmanyoda for the link to image shack. [Edited by - Jiia on October 29, 2004 1:58:22 PM]
You could try making the clothes look a little less form-fitting, especially around the knees. Also, most men these days wear straight leg or taper leg pants. This man seems to be wearing flared pants (the bottom cuffs look wider than the rest of the pants). Hope that helps.
Your geocities is unavailable.
Maybe you should try Imageshack for you image hosting?

Sorry about the quality of the pictures. DirectX jpg saves are a little grainy. Here are a few slightly better versions..

I would say it's the guy's proportions that are making him look 'fruity', not the clothes. ;) But making the clothes less 'neat' might help, maybe try putting some rips in the jeans and make the blue of the jacket less vivid - mixing brown or gray in with a color generally makes it look more masculine and rugged, while pure, vivid colors look more fashion-aware and thus 'fruity'.
I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.
Now I'm completely confused. The shape of his legs are almost completely the opposite to the shape of his pants. His body has the shin area very skinny, where they flare on the pants. So is the flare the problem? Or do I need to flare all the way up to the knee? Or are boot pants themselves a bad idea? hehe
The player will start with a buisness suit anyways. He can change into whatever clothes he wants. But now I'm concerned that his shape is fruity (aka, gay). Is that what you meant by fruity?

Here is a slightly improved (?) version
Any better?
I think his ass kind of vanished in the process, heheh. Unfortunately, he only has a single vertex back there. And I definitely don't wanna remap this thing.

I'm not a fan of the color scheme, to be honest. Brown/blue/blue...it's just very very ...blah, my friend. Maybe you did that in an effort to not be fruity, or you want him to be non-descript...but I'm thinking more definite colors would be good. =)

Yes that's what I ment by fruity. It's just that he looks like a lot of gay erotic comics I've seen (e.g. Tom of Finland): Pretty face with a slightly feminine jaw and mouth, no facial or body hair, puffy pecs, creamy skin, defined biceps and abs, narrow waist, bubble butt(at least in the first version). Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with making a character look gay, but if you want him to look macho you probably want to start by making his jaw broader and all his muscles more angular rather than round.
