To anyone that wants to learn to draw, my suggestion would be to first learn to draw lines, circles, and curves. This sounds simple, but most of the time, that''s one of the big drawbacks and people don''t even realize it.
After you have that down, try drawing boxes. stack them up ontop of each other. Draw them in perspective. Boxes are the easiest 3D object to draw. (besides spheres ) Drawing boxes will help teach you how to put a 3D object onto a 2D sheet of paper. It also teaches you how to draw perspective.
After you have that down. Then try doing boxey type objects, like houses, cars, etc.
Here''s a good tutorial on drawing characters:

damn, that''s a great sketch. how in the world do you draw so well? If you could write as many articles as possible that would be great.. ones for drawing things in pencil, others for working with photoshop, coloring in, and adding shadows/highlights, etc...
one of the most important thing is that, i don''t know what to draw without looking at something? for example how would you ever think of drawing that warrior above if you dont have an example of something similar in front of you? where do you get the ideas to add details and stuff? i guess my imagination isnt working when it comes to drawing

Practice makes perfect
And a good memory is useful, when you want to create original stuff...
I will start writing something for Photoshop as soon as I get my hands on it ( a week or two).

yeah, it''s pretty much more or less memory. what you do is expose yourself to EVERYTHING. when you watch movies, know what you think is cool, and know why, and put that in your library of "cool-things-that-i-like." if you would have looked at my other stuff, you''d be able to notice a trend with the wardrobe. i''m not too big on medieval stuff, so i don''t use it much. i''m more of a tech artist, with machinery and stuff. but for the wardrobe, it really is observing what people wear around you, and in movies, then you can #include that in your "medievalattire.h" and just throw it all together whenever you feel that you need a medieval person. if it''s a techy person, you start drawing utilitarian things like pockets everywhere, and electronic devices, and anything you can find at Home Depot, and throw that altogether. you really just do have to observe, and composite these things you observe, into things that the world has never seen before.
arg. that''s me. ^

You have to have a good mental picture in your head of what you want. You can start by drawing pics in magazines and stuff like that, I did that alot while I was younger now I can draw most stuff. Try and come up with your own style of drawing though dont draw the same picture over and over but draw soemthing similar from your head. Practice alot too, If your dont like drawing though you might as well not even pick up a pencil and begin because you really have to have a passion or liking for what your drawing or else it makes it no fun.

you know what. the hardest part of drawing to me is actully taking the mental image in my head and communicating it on paper. that is the hardest thing ever. even as i write this i have a really cool art idea but i cant draw the stupid thing.

well, once you master that, fantasy edge, you''ll be able to draw anything from this world and out of this world. but those who can imagine up some thing from their head, that''s not necessarily an artist. that''s a creative person, or a creator. this is where programmer and artist are the same. both will be able to create something from their minds in two different ways. you put those together, and you have a game.

And that would be a 5 minutes job, when I have a graphic tablet
And that''s when you know how to use filters (well ... that''s an early job I did while learning Photoshop), probably took half an hour.
More to come when I get my hands on Photoshop and the scanner
