man i wish i moderated this here forum. as for that last peice... well, that is pretty gratuitois. oh well.
as for the joining your team. well, my main problem is not that i dont want to join a team. I do, it would be great if the project charged me up enough. My main problem is not in that, it is more in the fact that i am sort of afraid to join a team. im more afraid of failing or that what i do isnt enough for the project. that is more or less what is on my mind. usully i see somthing that is better than mine and i sort of shut down. I like being the best but I also dont know what it is that i need to do to be it. That however is just ignorence. i will never be the best. there is always somthing more.
I guess it is more a security problem to me as all of you people who brag about "oh, this took me like 20 minutes". well, i sometimes do that to cover up the fact that it took me more like 3 hours and it really isnt anything special. I dont know.
Seeing your art has been of some inspiration though. it has shown me what i can do with the form of art that i choose to embrace and respect. the way i see it, anyone can make a 3d model. the tools are simple enough for most to learn. what irritates me is when people who just tinker with a mouse and dont really know what they are doing get credit that those of us who are working our ass off deserve.
Do not get me wrong. Im not saying that any of you fit this catagory. most of the people in this forum and on this site for that matter absolutly boot fuck me for skill level and i guess what gets me sometimes is that a lot of them are younger. I am 19 this month. never have i had access to outside of school education. I am too broke for that.
I guess what i dislike is that i am slipping behind everyone that was my piers only a few months ago.
this is interesting. i used to be an A student. I would be that so called teachers pet that everyone dislikes just so i could get the help or attention i needed. i was kicked out of school not a few months ago and now i have started to dumbify.
wow. i have strayed....... shit. sorry guys.
I am not text, I am not organized pixels, I am not killed by turning off your monitor, I am not isolated by turning off your computer. I just am.

Oh really? Try me. I haven''t been able to use any of the three dimensional modelers I have seen. You overestimate the average human artistic ability.

So I smiled, and they did.
Hello artists!
Most of the artwork here is cool. 8)
I hope I am allowed to post mine, too. Unfortunately It has a high resolution. Sorry for that, but at the moment I have no server access to my page and therefore it was not possible to upoad a smaller version of this picture. 8(
This model & animation was done for a competition in 1998.
I was at the age of 16, so please don''t expect too much. 8)
I also "paint" 2D Photoshop images, but if you want
to see them you should visit my website: http://www.beren.de
The picture is called "TIME MACHINE":
Hope ya like it! 8)
Oh... and a question:
Is it possible to use Lightwave 6.5 to create Quake 3
Actors? It has UVW mapping, but I''m not sure whether
you can use it for models + skinning or not...

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C- beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die. -- Blade Runner
3D modeling is most definately NOT easy..
it is 2D art.. SQUARED..
i am currently modeling the ultimate transformer: DEVASTATOR.. and i could prolly draw him on paper in about 4 hours, and impress all but the most talented artists.. but modeling him is an altogether different task... though the final result will be very cool indeed (i''m happy with it thus far)
Your ignorance definate shines through on that comment..
someone can model a house by using a box and a few textures, but to actually model something with complex geometry takes real talent. and to all you 3D modelers who do organic work (people, monsters) i have to give you even more kudos.. i still can''t model a human to my satisfaction..
anyway.. see ya''!
and yes.. i''ll post good ol'' devastator on here when i''m done. though i''m prolly a few days away from getting just the model done.. let alone the texture mapping.. i''m not going to model him to look green plastic, when he''s done he''ll look like he''s made out of actual construction equipment, complete with dirt and grime!
man i can''t wait till i get to that point.. texturing is the funnest part!
hasta.

Fantasy,
Well, there really is no point to being afraid to join a team. It can really help you develop your skills. If it turns out you are not able to produce the art, that''s not a big deal. You can then either leave the team, keep trying, or do the stuff that''s within your grasp already. You won''t need 3D modeling either since the current project is 2D and it''s using semi-cartoony art, not anything very detailed.
About the 3D modeling, it''s not that simple. There are a few different methods of modeling though. You can use presets and premade models (greatly limits what can be done). You can model from scratch (takes patience and planning), and this gets more complicated as the model gets more complex. You can 3D scan a real object (done often with movies). You could even take a 2D image and convert it to 3D using certain tools. It''s a different kind of art from traditional 2D art, but it takes talent, experience, and motivation to get good at just like 2D art.
It could probably help to decrease some of your negativity, and stop worrying about being the best. It can only come naturally and through trying different things. Instead of trying to be the best, just concentrate on being better. All one needs is some motivation and you can educate yourself through research, trial, and observing others.
Well, if you want to give the game team an attempt, you could try 1 or 2 concept art drawings and go from there. Let me know, and I can get you a couple ideas of what to try.
aegrimonia, 2D squared = 4D, no?

well, i can agree. like most things, if you know how to go about it right, anything is easy. then again, you will have to remmember that when i think of 3d models i think of the models in the final fantasy movie or jurassic park. they are done the same way but...

Well, here's what I've been working on for the past few weeks. BTW, thank you very much for the skin coloring tutorial Ahw, as soon as I finish this last final paper I'm going to try it out.

I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.

What? All I said was that I cannot use a 3D modeler, and neither can most people, a statement I am sure other people will back me up on.

Well furby...
Like all other skills 3D modelling requires of course a certain percentage of talent, but I think practise is more relevant.
Without talent you will learn quite a lot and have the theoretic abilities, but never achive the status of a Leonardo Da Vinci.
That dosn't matter much, because you have a high skill "level" and you can do most of the work with virtuosity.
With only talent at your side and not the will to develop it you will achive almost nothing... 8)
Agree? o_O
