If you wanted to go into game design and development at a normal college what skills would you focus upon. And what general courses would you take? Thanx, Mokon
Mokon of Spartan Studios
Drawing, computer art, creative writing, technical writing, script writing, film criticism, music composition, and of course lots of programming. I found my architecture survey course to be quite useful, as well as a comparative mythology survey, intro to philosophy, intro to psychology, intro to sociology, economics, editing...

The two most important things for a game designer are understanding the psychology of pleasing your audience, and being able to organize and communicate information such that a coherent game design gets created.

I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.
