How do crackers do those cool installers?
How do CLASS and some of those other guys do those cool little installations programs for warez? Are they using special tools, or are they all done from scratch?
Haven''t you looked in iwannalookcoolbuthavenorealpurposeprogramming.h?
DoEverythingForMe(); should do everything for you...
But seriously, warez is evil, don''t do drugs, and uh.... Don''t be a fool go to school.

When you are cool too, you can do it, for now, stick to the geek look...
eheh, otherwise, read some demo programming material, and you might be enlightened. As well, if they do so much cool stuff, it''s because they either use tricks / ready made stuff, or they actually know their system, and use it to do tricks (if you read Charles Petzold Win32 APi book, and don''t get tons of ideas for such tricks, then just forget about it ...)
If you really really wanna know what you can do with a bit of effort, you might wanna check out www.hornet.org and the links on it (since the archive is dead).
But seriously, cool effects are only cool when you do them yourself, otherwise it''s *LLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME*
d''uh!
And how is it that you have warez in your possession, anyway ?

Well ImaGNUman, first let me thank you for the well-intended flame.
As for whether I have a "real" purpose in programming, well who's to judge? But if you do a search on my name, you'll find plenty of ideas in the Game Design forum and elsewhere.
As for my progarmming prowess, I am a newbie. I'm trying to learn. And like many newbies, when I see something cool, I think "How can I do something like that?"
So, my question stands - how do they do it?
And yes, stealing is wrong, etc etc. And don't drive over the speed limit, or go to R movies or smoke if you're under 17, and don't have a sip of wine if you're under 21, and never download illegal MP3's , or give or receive mix tapes, and heaven forbid, don't illegally borrow your buddy's Playstation games. =)

Ah, and I suppose none of you have ever done anything that was never considered to be illegal? No of course not.
But I yet to see one of those "drag and drop" patchers on anything legal. You know the ones that you drag the file to be patched onto a text area and the program does its thing. I''m curious to as how it works, something like that could be usefull for my TIE Fighter editing I''m doing.

"I can't work like this! Where are my fuzzy dice?"
I'm not sure what you mean by 'cool' installers, but you might want to look at owner-drawn buttons and window regions (If you're using Windows).

Ohh Game Design ideas. Sorry for flaming you I didnt realize who I was dealing with.
freeman_swe : I swear it was for educational purpose Mr Officer !
otherwise my advise still stands : read a good book on programming, and you''ll get plenty of ideas popping up (the owner drawn buttons and others are a good start).
If you were talking about eye candy like a scroller, or a wave effect, I''ll just repeat : read anything on demomaking... the effects you see on crackers programs (DOS style) were done years and years ago on the ATari scene, or AMiga, or even DOS (but at the time, DOS sucked a LOT). So what are you waiting for ? Go on the net, look for "demomaking". Scroll throug the graphic effects library in the hornet.org archive, browse the links ...
But more importantly, use your brains. I am sure you could figure that out by yourself with a little bit of thinking . (hint : you''ll need some trigonometry, and othe basic maths. You see, MAths *can* be useful )
youpla :-P
