A few good tutorial sites (3dsmax+)
TutorialFind.com: "3dsmax"
TutorialFind.com. Self-explanatory.
DesignerToday.com: "3dsmax"
Formerly Tiemdesign.com and the-internet-eye.com. Now with a better layout and more content for all sorts of software.
3dmaker.dk - Tutorials: "3dsmax"
Nice directory of tutorials including a complete tutorial to modeling, texturing, and animating a low-ooly Lara Croft for game usage.
I'm a programmer and shy away from modeling 99.9% of the time, but sometimes to test my stuff I need to make things (or when I'm bored, I like to make ninjas and jedis, because theyre freaken cool)
Anyway, my novice advice is to get a book instead of a website. Right now I've got "Inside 3DS max 4"by kim lee (pub. New Riders) Maybe a little out of date, but good enough for the amature. 'Half' the book is dedicated to movie production etc, and the other 'half' is game related (I say 'half' because the movie prod. sections are longer. Still a good read if your doing game modeling, though) It walks you through how to make a slimey dude on a mechanical walking machine, and a simple level kinda thing. Very good book.
