GD: FPS-Spacesim mixture

Hi there, just had some funny ideas with a couple of friends. Now most of our ideas are "on paper" and I would like to recv some feedback from you guys. The design is incomplete, eventually unrealistic, but perhaps for some of you it's still interesting. Just post your ideas, your opinion and everything that comes to your mind. Your site is on some kind of dynamic IP. I can't connect. Maybe nobody else can either.
It's a very intriguing idea, but regarding multiplayer the major problem you may run into is pacing. What is a player to do while they wait for a ship to close distance with an enemy ship? Can they even see the battle? Perhaps they can at least control turrets while waiting to get into the action.

Vice versa, while marines are storming an enemy ship, what is the pilot to do? Perhaps he can provide using some sort of tachyon weapon "artillery" support INSIDE the ship? Maybe he gets a deck by deck inside view of what's happening and can snipe on enemies? Otherwise he's just twiddling his thumbs?

If pilot and marines go together, then their ship is left vulnerable. You could go with some sort of scheme that forces the two ships to dock, but then the marines are still bored while waiting for this to happen.
