Running X programs over SSH

When I was running Red Hat 9 I could SSH to a remote machine also running Linux and remotely run X apps. But ever since I installed Debian I've been unable to. I've tested this with both the Mandrake 9.1 box at my house and the Linux server at my uni running some sort of SuSE (I think). Both say "Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:" whenever I try to run something. Any ideas about what's wrong? EDIT: I fixed it! I had to add the line "ForwardX11 yes" to my /etc/ssh/ssh_config file. I guess it's not set by default in Debian.
I like the DARK layout!
The -X option should also fix this (did for me anyway)
