Best scripting language for a beginner.
I dunno... I think Lua is as complex as you make it. After all, there are Lua distributions where you never have to lay a finger on C code... LuaCheia is probably the best of these. More advanced techniques such as metatables and coroutines won't intrude upon your programs until you want them to.
Hasn't anyone here tried Ruby? I like it better than all of the scripting languages mentioned above.

I like python, of course, then the only scripting languages I have looked at, are perl and python. So, I don't have a fairly sound comparison with languages like lua or small. Python has PyOpenGL, which is the openGL interface, and PyGame which is a wrapper around SDL. Python also has a fairly dynamic nature(nothing is explicitly typed), and very clean syntax, which may suit it nicely for a beginner. It also looks fairly similar to pseudo-code, so if you like that type of development that could be a plus. It's primitives and standard library are amongst the best that I have seen in a language. Python.org is also a fairly good resource, so if you decide on that as your scripting language, that is a fairly good site to check first.

I've played with a bunch, Perl, Python, Ruby, Lua, javascript, Tcl.. just to name the ones I used long enough to recall right now
Python is the only one I still use.
