I once had a little purple toy race car that changed color to orange when exposed to heat.

I had a whole bunch of those. After they heated up I'll go run water over them and watch the colour go back down as it cooled off. Think I still have them somewhere...

So it's not particularly a new effect but it's the first time I've seen it on something so large.
