How to get a job as a game programmer.

What education is demand in your country to became a game programmer? How many of you have university education? And how many years of "study" is necessarily to learn game programming without any help from school?
My case may be unique, but I don't have a degree and only about 3 years of C++ and I managed to snag a job. Your third question doesn't really have an answer as far as I'm concerned. There's always something you don't know so you'll always be studying 
You could probably pick up the basics in a couple months depending on how much background you have and how determined you are.
