How to play .MODS ?
Hi there. I''d like to play .MODS in my game but i don''t want to do this myself. I''ve heard of MIDAS for DOS but i don''t know if anything like this exists for DirectSound/Win98.
And, at last but not least, doesn''t it slow down your application ?
.MODs are an anachronism that should have died with DOS. Basically, they''re like simplified MIDI files, but they have a ton of limitations that make them not worth using on modern OSes. Why not just use MIDI files instead?
Hello go to
midas stuff
Click on MIDAS vs DirectSound, in there it says some stuff that I think is bull, but it does mention that it runs on win32 platforms.
Kensai:
I really like mods/xm/it/s3m music files, and have heard alot of good music created with them. Now MIDI files in my experience always sound horrible ( maybe it is my soundcard ). Could you post a link to some really good MIDI music. I don't care what style, I just want it to sound rich and not so synthetic. And yes, I have heard bad mods... But I guess thats the artists fault, maybe it is the same way with MIDI?
I will now link you too some nice sounding mods/xm/it/s3m tracks, these aren't my style of music, but they do sound nice.
If you decide to listen to only one I suggest childrenHeretic.
- 2nd skav - From the demo days
- ctgoblin -Different, but cool
- childrenHerectic - Nice piano
- car - dunno, its nice
- unreal - another demo days one
anyhow,
have fun

.MODs own. I''ll have to agree with ao on this one. I''ve never once in my life heard a good MIDI.
Anyway, that fmod thing looks interesting. The ModPlug SDK has also been out for a while, but I''ve never gotten it to do much of anything (dunno what i''m doing with mem-mapped stuff, thats the main reason). Has anyone here made it do anything?
