Texture wrapping

How do i wrap a texture around a mesh??? and what exactly is a mesh?? is it a collection of triangles, triangle strip(s), or what? i mean, how is a mesh generally structured? Thanks! Blue, Blue Grass...
A mesh is a lot of triangle that makes a model

You usually use it to say "model made of triangles" by opposition to a model made of nurbs/bezier surfaces
