I''m using the Windows XP IME program to type foreign characters in documents and I want to ditch Windows and move to Linux(Mandrake 10). Are there any programs for Linux which will let me type foreign characters without me having to run the entire OS in a language other than English? Copying and pasting from a character map type program won''t be sufficient because I need to be able to type Kanji and copying and pasting each character will get tiresome quickly.
As far as I''m aware this program does exactly what you want. From what I''ve read, locale mangling is not required to use it. It provides both GTK+ and XIM input modules.

I found this rather large document with Google, if you need information on various other things (fonts, et cetera). Not sure how SuSE-specific it is or how up-to-date it is, but I suppose it can''t hurt.
