Why not have some form of community art

Just modify the GNU license that''s used for open source code, ie. open source art. Make it clear that it''s for the good of the community and that the creator will not make any money from it even if it ends up in a game, although the creator of the model should be credited. People could submit the models with uvmaps and a default skin. And anyone could reskin it.

That site focuses specifically on the Torque engine and requires submission to download. Its clear that our target audience probably has little to no experience in graphical art so I think that, although an excellent idea, we need a better alternative/plan.

Yep and it''s not Gamedev.net is it. This would be for members of Gamedev.net, most of whom are programmers and wouldn''t be able to make asset submissions as required by that site. I used to do a good bit of programming before I started modelling and it was a pain in the hole searching for models all over the net.
What about file formats?
There should be just a few formats accepted so that you don''t get a few 3DMax and .X files and a ton of what-the-hell-kind-of-extension-is-that files?

Lol!

Cube: How am I supposed to pick up my sword without any hands?!?

Cylinder: Grr, I'm a monster!

Cube (regards cylinder dubiously): And I should be afraid of you... why? You don't even have any teeth.

Cylinder: Oh yeah? And you're 'regarding me dubiously' using what facial features?

Cube (proudly): I have not one, but 6 faces!

Cylinder: They still don't have any features. Face it man, you're _flat_. I however, have _curves_! Mwahahaha...

Cube: Uhh... are you a female monster?

Cylinder (stops, baffled): I'm... not sure, really. Are you a male hero?

Cube: Um... Never mind that! Have at thee!

Cylinder: I thought you couldn't pick up the sword?

Cube: Well...

Cylinder: You don't even have a sword, do you? Hahaha! Swords aren't regular polygons, idiot!

Cube: Watch who you're calling an idiot! I may not have a sword, but I can still stomp on you! (Cube jumps and lands on top of cylinder. Nothing happens.)

Cube: Hey, did I hit you? Did any numbers fall off?

Cylinder: Sadly, I don't think our graphics department can draw numbers...

Cube (depressed): Oh. ... How the heck do Triangle and Robert do this?

Cylinder: Beats me.

The cube hops of the cylinder and they sit there in silence for a few minutes.

Cylinder: Hey. If you have six faces, and you're currently sitting on one of them, does that mean one of your faces is also a butt?

Cube: I'm not going to dignify that with a response...

They sit there for a few more minutes.

Cube (hops in place excitedly): Hey I have an idea! Okay, how about this - we can do a chase scene! That doesn't require any hands!

Cylinder: Okay! You run, I'll chase you.

Cube: Hmm, running... Well, you see, I don't have any legs either. But I can hop! (Starts hopping away.)

Cylinder: Whatever. I'm cooler though, I can hop _and_ roll! (Demonstrated by flopping onto its side and rolling after the cube.)

Cube (grumbles): Yeah, yeah. Showoff...

They chase for a while... and for a while longer...

Cylinder: So... I'm kind of bored of chasing you. What do you want me to do when I catch you?

Cube: Uh... I hadn't thought that far ahead actually...

Cylinder: Are you _sure_ you're not an idiot?

Cube: Well if _you're_ so smart, _you_ tell _me_ what we should do next!

Cylinder: I suppose I could take a turn at hopping on you.

Cube: Hey, I'm the hero! I shouldn't have to be on the bottom!

Cylinder (dryly): Oh yeah, some hero you are - you don't have a sword, and even if you did have one, you couldn't swing it because you don't have any hands. You don't have any armor, or any facial features. You can't run because you don't have any feet, and you're running away from a toothless cylinder-monster. I'm so impressed.

Cube: Hey! It's not like it's my fault this is so lame!

Cylinder: Well who's fault is it then?

Cube: It's all the fault of that #&%* Anonymous Poster! Oh, if only the art forum members hadn't listened when he told them to just make games with cubes and cylinders...! (The cube rolls over onto another face, which is as close as it can come to swooning melodramatically.)

Cylinder: Well why don't we go stomp on him then?

Cube (Rolls itself back upright. Not that anyone can tell the difference.): Yeah, that's it! You're brilliant cylinder!

Cylinder: Naturally. I am the female one after all. Er, at least I think so...

Cube: CHARGE!!!

(invisible) Narrator: (And Cube and Cylinder run... erm, hop (and roll) off into the distance, searching for that dreaded fiend, the Anonymous Poster, so they can bravely do battle... erm or at least hop on him...? Oh this is lame, I quit. THE END.)

I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.

Why wait, why not start it in this thread so it can get it''s own page if it takes off? And how bout a section for art by programmers(lol so people like me can contribute)?
