How do I install .pcf fonts?

I''m running Mandrake 9.2 and using GNOME 2.4 but I can''t figure out how to install ProggyClean.pcf. I tried finding a way to add them via the GNOME fonts dialog but couldn''t find any options for installing them. Can anyone tell me how to install it?
Since it''s supplied as an X style font rather than a TrueType (or similarly "more common") font, you''ll have to install it the X way rather than the GNOME way. With GNOME, you normally can add fonts from the Font dialog (look in Details, there''s a "Go to font folder" button).

So, to install X fonts you have to do it the old manual way. Here are some instructions I found with Google (ignore the bit about BDF conversion, since it''s not necessary with a PCF font). Nothing too difficult, but not quite as simple as the FontConfig-based GNOME way.
