What about one''s lack of sexual life?
I suppose it could though, since a lot of art can be fueled by passionate emotions.

Has your sexual life ever influence your game design?
I did not say that art was a creation of pain, only that emotional pain often appears to create art.
This is, I will say, an idea that I basically lifted from Chuck Palahniuk''s Diary. If you look at who we consider to be some of the greatest artists in this world, be they painters or writers, they oftentimes had serious amounts of pain in their lives. Mercury poisoning, psychosis, syphylitic dementia, paranoia, crippling physical diseases. It''s less a theory and more of a probablistic fact.
Pain is a very raw and passionate feeling. And when a person feels such raw emotion, they oftentimes look for a way to ''vent'' it. Some people take to the bottle, some people take to violence, many artists use it to fuel their creations.

It may not have been the pain itself, but the mild-to-severe disconnect with reality that it engendered which served those artists so well. Besides, the most popular artists of all time weren''t "experiencing" or "expressing" anything; they were trying to make a buck. Michaelangelo, Raphael, Shakespeare, Beethoven, Mozart... Paid to write music or staging plays as a commercial enterprise; commissioned to paint buildings or portraits, or creating sculptures and other studies out of curiousity.
Self-indulgent "art" is disgusting. In my experience, the greatest works were very functional, too.

I would think that if life influences didn''t influence your game design or your art life, you were out of touch with yourself and your art. Whether it comprehensively makes a good game is subjective, and would be dependent on the type of life you lead.
I am not sure that I agree with Run_The_Shadows suggestion, "Pain is the catalyst to fine art", there are plenty of other motivations besides pain that contribute to artistic representation. There are some very respected thinkers, including even some catholic church members (thought it would be a cold day in hell before I referenced them) who say, "All art, no matter how sublime, can be traced to the desire to attract attention from the opposite sex."
I say that not to be conclusive about any one thing, but to illustrate the wide range of interpretations out there when it comes to the question of where are comes from and it''s influences. After thirty years of writing, to me it is like sex; I don''t care where the inspiration or motivation or conceptualization comes from as long as it does.

Always without desire we must be found, If its deep mystery we would sound; But if desire always within us be, Its outer fringe is all that we shall see. - The Tao

You just reminded me of one of the most hilarious threads I have read in recent times. I believe it was on that Ladder Theory site.
One of the posts was about Beethoven and his "Fur Elise".
Basically, the guy made a very vivid (thus my hilarity) depiction of how Beethoven probably used this one to get laid time and again despite being not so handsome on top of being hard of hearing.
The reason I found it so amusing was that it DID strike a chord in me as I have found myself using the same very tactic, and with results, quite a few times.
"And so, well, I dunno, you just, like, INSPIRED me. You know ?"
"Ooooh, Philippe ! That''s SOOOOO cute!"
Now I am trying to picture the same thing for a game designer... mmmh...
"And so, err, I dunno, I thought of you and it, err, inspired me !"
"Space marines stranded on Mars attacked by hordes of mutant zombies and demon from Hell ?! Eeeew !"
Somehow, I dont think so
Sancte Isidore ora pro nobis !

You reminded me of an old sidescroller I designed a few year back called "Super Sam Vs. The Evil Cheating Bitch Who Won''t Give Me My CD''s Back."
A pretty violent game, as I recall.

[...]Has your sexual or love life ever influence you to add an idea to your game design or maybe influence you enough to make an entire game based on such?
Hmmm. Well as a matter of fact, I'll just answer that with a link to the game's free download

Yea I used to have a account on here but I forgot the sn and pass and I dont want to check my mail for it cause im lazy. As far as the art I do, it is all inspired by pain. If im not miserable I cant make anything worth while. Just the point of view from an artist.
I''d venture to say that anything you make while you''re miserable would be less than "worthwhile". Maybe you should lighten up. Or kill yourself, you angsty bastard.
For my part, I find that I do my best work when I''m thinking about somethign awesome. Like explosions. Sweet. Also, boobs.
