is it smart to make a level editor if you are making an adventure game like monkey island?

It really depends on what you feel you need; if you have the extra time and you feel it will in the end lessen the amount of work you have to do, then go for it. If you can code in the levels by hand without a problem, then why expend the energy? Look deep into your heart, and you will find the answer

Tools rule. If its not too hard it will really save you a lot of time in the end if you make a good level editor.

-Even if it would take some time, go for it. Games with level editers can take on new life. It would be easier for you to make levels, and you could release it too and go for the whole "make you own adventure" thingy. The more the better.
