I don''t want to be harsh, but do writers usually have that many grammer mistakes?

If this idea of yours worked, I'd be a lot better off than I am now. I have a slew of ideas that can be used, I write night and day, 99% of my grammar is right, and I've not been given an offer that seems to be worth it. I don't think you'll be given that great of an offer either.

If you really want to write, maybe you should make a site. On this site, have some examples of what you've done. I mean, nearly anyone can write. Not everyone can write anything worth something. People want to know if you can before they bother. If you wanted to be lazy, I guess you could post something on here. Not to be critical to those who do, it's just that a site is more convenient. Plus, maybe some people don't check up on these forums, but check around on search engines.

Also, when you call yourself a freelance RPG writer, which usually means you've done something to give you the title. If you're new to it, and you seem to be, you should say something along the lines of, "I'm an aspiring freelance writer," followed shortly by a "I'll work for free," because no one wants to pay for a newbie. In your, and my, case, asking for experience is the way to go. Once you have a title under your belt, then you can ask for some payment, but not much.

Well i have no exp. myself, but i would not do that much work for free.My uncle phil brucato worked for white wolf hell he wrote most of the shit people read but he hardly made any money at all.I do agree that you need a way to step your foot in the door before you make $$$$$$ but i think if your good enugh you can get a little cash to start.
I would say to look for small company's before anything else, they wont pay much in most cases but most of them are looking for new writers.

Again, not to be critical, but I don''t see you writing much at all.

I write because I like to write. I research heavily into things I like-- mythology. That helps me a lot. I watch a lot of movies and television and I play video games, though not heavily.

In school, I have four classes a day and a lunch period. We''re on block scheduling, so I get an hour and a half for each class and half an hour for lunch. I don''t pay attention in too many of my classes, so I end up doing one of two things: sleeping or writing. I''m given a study hall every other day.

On a good day, I can create like, ten characters and a couple ideas. Again, that''s on a good day. Add the ten characters and two or three ideas to what I already have with what I''ve already written, a number of characters and what I think of as decent or could-be-decent ideas, and I could have a storyline I think would be suitable for a game. Of course, afterwards, I''d need to spend a while on the timeline and events and such, so it wasn''t just a bunch of characters and ideas. Dialogue would be needed as well. I wouldn''t exactly call a decent-sized game "that much work." (Do note that, as stated earlier, ten to twenty hours is a decent-sized game. FFX was overkill.)

Also, I don''t write because I want to make money. If I thought the game would be interesting, I''d do it for free and the pure enjoyment I get from writing. I have my future planned out for me already. Payment, to me, would be a bonus. Can''t anything be a hobby anymore?
Getting hired as a writer for a game seems a little backward. What are the odds that a bunch of code-jockeys are sitting around a table saying, "Boy, we've got all this talent, and all this software, and a great RPG engine, but it's a shame we'll have to shelve it since none of us can write a lick. What we need is somebody who will give us some direction. We need a freelance writer to come in here and turn our little heap of potential into something great. I'd sure like to give some guy a bag of money for spending two weeks writing a short story that we can turn into a terrific game, and then pay him some more for hanging around and telling us how to make it."

No way. Write a bunch of short stories, create a bunch of worlds, and then get them published. Then, when somebody says, "Hey, I'd like to set a video game in the same world that this guy's short story is in, maybe they'll call you. Or maybe they'll just rip off what they like and take their chances on you trying to sue them for intellectual property theft.

There are too many excellent writers out there for you to get all uppity about selling your talents. Writing has been around for thousands of years, and there's no shortage of material, talent, or angsty kids with a penchant for fantasy. You may well be a great writer, but you need another way into the industry than this. If you want to post some of your stuff, then I'll certainly read it, and if it's awesome, and you get a paying position writing for games, then you'll make cynics like me look like jerks. Good luck.

P.S. - I think that Warsong (or somebody) should come up with some kind of writing challenge fore these guys. Just to see them strut their stuff.

I never really expected to get hired and paid a shitload of money for working. I don't care to, either. I don't expect someone to go, "My word , this man has talent! Let me see if I can base a game off his work." I just want to put something into a game for the fun of it.

Although there's no people out there with absolutely no direction, whatsoever, there're teams out there that need more writers to contribute. I've talked to one or two, but the one that I can remember wanted me to write an extremely stupid story, so I was inclined to turn them down.

I'll also say this. I'm not a terrific writer, with teams beating down my door to get me to help. I just do what I like, whether it's all that great or not, and I don't stop writing. I think if people just do what they like and learn to do it well, good things would come of it.

And I think it'd be pretty cool to have someone challenge me to write something, as long as it's an open-ended challenge that interests me.

I can't help but get baited by writers asking to be challenged.

And I usually toss them something like...
