Is there any 3D stuff in Diablo 2 ?
Hi there,
I''m just curious about Diablo 2. Diablo 2 seem to be 2D. But why it could make use of Direct3D?

Diablo 2 is 2D, and it uses D3D because when doing alpha blending, additive blending, or any other type of blending it''s always faster with hardware acceleration. The special fx (which involve lots of blending) in D2 therefore uses D3D to take advantage of the hardware acceleration.

+AA_970+ is right. Without hardware acceleration, blending and all of the other aspects of Diablo II would be a lot slower. However, I''m sure that a bit of it is 3D because the "Perspective" option is only available if you''re using hardware acceleration. This option zooms in/out for you. Using DirectDraw(and only directdraw), this option is not available to the gamer.
