Need help about ordering a sampler disc set. (FORMAT)
Go to http://www.bigfishaudio.com/4DCGI/detailCompatibility.html?220 and tell me what I want. Basically I''m wanting it in a .wav or .ogg or .mp3 format, something my computer can read, so I can use it...with my computer! Is my best bet to get it in .cda (so it can be played on CD players) and then rip it? I''m so confused...

Prosonus is very outdated... I''m not saying that it''s especially bad, (although it does have some problems), but there are much better, cheaper orchestral sample sets available these days. If you have $300 to spend, you ought to consider:
1) Garritan Personal Orchestra $249 - Just released. Nothing but great reviews coming out so far. A very complete, high quality set. This comes with a sampler (a lite version of kontakt).
2) East-West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra (Silver version)
Can be pretty much described the same as the above set.
Check into both of these to find out the differences. Really, I can''t stress enough what a bad decision it would be to pay $300 on Prosonus.
And, I really think that you will be making your life difficult by just using the wav samples... why not use a sampler like kontakt? People put a lot of time and effort into programming kontakt, halion, giga, etc., sample sets so they will help you get a nice orchestral sound without too much difficulty. (I''m not saying good samples/programming will make you a beter composer, but they will help your workflow).

ok, I looked on EastWest''s site (www.soundsonline.com) at the Silver Edition of EWQL Symphonic Orchestra. That really looks nice, but it doesn''t talk about the format. Any help here? I''m really looking for wav...
Here is something else I''ve been looking at. Only one problem though: no percussion.
So the Silver Edition of EWQL Symphonic Orchestra is my best bet, right? Where can I look at that Garritan Personal Orchestra you mentioned?

i''d suggest running a thread at the www.kvr-vst.com instruments forum..
i think garritan was compared to another ''lower cost'' set recently.. might be a better way to get heads-up on useful features.. ie. alternate/rotational bowing direction (switching samples per key press for realism) stuff you might not think about until after you''re stuck with it..
