I am working on isometric strategy and now I have to draw terrains for it. What program should I use? Photoshop, Paint, or some special program to create terrain? I want good terrain, great graphics like in C&C or Warcraft. Nebo

hmmm if you want such nice terrains you''re going to have to do a little more practicin than just jumping into it. try developing your game engine right now with just filled colours, at least that way you can work the tiling mechanics easy.
for terrains like SC or C&C, you''ll want a 3D program of some sort. Check out vertexnormal''s site. He uses POVray i believe to do his terrains and they turn out pretty well.

Terragen is nice, but for commercial use is $79 to register, free registration for non-commerical use. Bryce is $200(??). If I didn''t know any better, I think I recall seeing where you could export height maps from Age of Mythology and a few other strategy games with built in 3D terrain engines.

You might also want to read up on some battle reports and study some real life battle fields in order to see how terrain is used in strategic combat.
