hmmm... have to try...

Brian Jones: 0x0031 is a floating point percentage (i.e. 0 - 100 in floating point format). For more info, check out the specs at wotsit''s file formats.

@pipes clangor:

yes, this is the general limit of 3DS fileformat, a maximum of 16-bit-long arrays of vertices/faces.
apart from that: the material names can only be stored in 8+3 filename manner.
perhaps you should check out support.discreet.com, after account-creation go into download section and download "3DS file toolkit", current version is 2.0 or 3.0 IIRC; perhaps you will find additional information to solve some of your other, remaining, problems (but of course not the 65k vert./face limit)

Sorry to bring this back up, but I think you''re wrong Enigma.
0x0030 seems to hold the shininess value for a material.
0x0031 seems to hold nothing, for like when there is no shininess applied to a material.

Can you post a link to the file you''re using? I got the meaning of 0x0031 from the spec, I don''t think I''ve ever found one in a 3ds file yet!

batwing2 is a modified version of batwing. It has a shininess value applied to it. You''ll see that they''ll load differently.
