UDP network engine
hiho all, i''m writing on an UDP network engine for a voice communiacator.
but i have a little design problem, because i don''t know how to ensure, that some important packets really arrived at the client host.
how do engines like quake or half-life do that?
by ack packets?
thx for any comment,
Alexander M
If you want all your network traffic to get there, with a minor latency loss, use TCP. If you plan on dropping some voice data blocks when they are lost (which would be a good option), use UDP.
Quake and Half-Life sent only parts of their packets reliably, and yes, they used ack packets sent back to the sender to confirm delivery... It''s the only way.
