"using fruity loops, reason, or acid pro does not make you a musician. lets get that clear. using loops is not talent! "
I am not "flaming you" on this. Your music is pretty good. The sound quality isn''t the best, but the overall feel and melodies are there. The comment was for all the people asking about Fruity Loops and Reason. On many of these boards I find 13-16 yr old kids posting songs that they made in Fruity Loops,Acid Pro, or any loop based software (using pre-made outside loops). And they call themselves musicians! That drives me crazy!
Sorry if it seemed like I was attacking you or your music. Thats not what I am about. When I complete my website I will post a link so you can hear my music.
no hard feelings man

No problem - just thought I''d clarify that using these programs does in fact take a degree of skill, and make sure you werent assuming that just because someone uses these programs they arent a ''real'' musician.

I understand how you feel....it sucks when you are still learning how to take criticism as well as learn how to compose...the two dont ever seem to mix, cuz composition seems to be a very personal thing....
And it especially sux when people who criticise dont know the first thing about music composition (THIS IS NOT AN ATTACK AT THOSE ON THIS POST!!!)....anyway....
Even if you think some responses are more or less pointless, its sometimes good to consider them a bit, and understand how it could relate to your music. I have recieved alot of bad crit over the years about my music, alot which I havent agreed with, but i think Ive learned from what I didnt think applied....
Food for thought....

Indeed - any opinion on music is a good learning opportunity, be it a proper analysis, someone just telling you what they think, or someone just bagging the music. The thing about music is that anyone can give a valid opinion - they all know what they think sounds good. Its also a very subjective thing though, as a tune that can be awsome to one person may be crappy to someone else. Hehe, I''ve been playing music for a long time, but not composing it for as long, but from the playing side I''ve learned to handle critism pretty well so that I can learn from it I think.
That being said, a blanket statement which doesnt even actually refer to the music (such as "using loops takes no skill" or something along those lines), is not at all helpful. Hehe - I sure understand where it comes from though, there are a lot of "cut and paste ''composers''" out there using these sorts of programs, and that indeed takes very little skill at all.

if you looked into it you would know that reason only has one loop player which most people use to re arrange cut up loops using the individual hits for drum programming. Othere than that it has 2 samplers, 2 synths, a reg. sequencer, a matriz sequencer and alot of (dull) effects. Therefore it is completly absurd to talk about loop based music. Fruityloops can also be used originally as it also supports VST instruments

Reason is an amazing piece of software.. right now my hardware list is:
Audigy2
4.1 surround system (analog)
Yamaha PSR-225GM Keyboard
Reason 1.5
My current goal for hardware is:
Audigy2
5.1 surround system (digital) <- gonna get tomorrow hopefully
Yamaha PSR-225GM Keyboard
Reason 2.5
ReWire
ReCycle
I''ll get there eventuially :D
Hmm you HAVE ReWire. It is part of Reason. It just doesn''t do anything till you get a ReWire compatible sequencer like Cubase.
So your wish doesn''t really make any sense unless you jsut forgot to mention wishing for a better sequencer which lets you record audio and use VST effects(much better than reasons) and VST instruments (for more synths).
Btw. for your audigy have you checked the "kxproject" drivers which are much better than the Creative ones?

Regardless of what other people may say, in my unprofessional opinion your music is very good; even fits with a game I am designing at the moment .

I needed that...plus it''s a very good point. Good job for speaking up, Scott!

Sorry, Haven't checked back in a while (busy working on my game ^_^). As far as the comment about Reason not making me a real music writer, that comment is totally BS. You are comparing apples to oranges here. I can write music in Reason, ModPlug, CakeWalk, or a staff sheet paper/pencil.. Its not the medium that makes the music, the medium is just a way for the music writer to allow others to hear what is in his head. None of my songs use loops (and those that do are created from me)...

It doesn't matter what tool I use... Whats important is that the music is comming from ~me~, not some tool.. The medium/player is just a way to let others hear it..
