Firewall a problem
Well, I made once a two player ship battle game for linux, using sockets and TCP. I tried it with a friend now over internet because he just installed linux too, but of coursde it didn''t work. We are both behind operators firewall, so this must be the problem. I am newbie in this case, but how could I play it behind firewalls? I''v tested it otherwisae only on localhost with two players myself.
Thanks

ask your operator of the firewall to open the tcp/udp port which was used in your game

Ah, they definitely don''t open ports.. But I can still play LFS for example and GPL.. hows that? Is there some open ports that I can use? Or should the server be behind no firewall?

I would also be interested in an answer to this, as I have the same problem (and I''m a GPLer too

Any servers you can contact have open ports or no firewall at all. That''s just the way the internet works.
Yeah, ok.
For example in GPL I cannot host a game because I am behgind firewall (no-one could see me).. but I can play very well by joining existing game. So all packets go throught the host player? So not peer to peer?
Also in LFS I notice that it tels messages like "PlayerX does not allow direct connections.. sending packets through PlayerY".. can''t exactly remember the words.. so it seems like it tries to use peer to peer, but for player who are behind firewall it sends packets through the host.. or something like this?
