Gnome vs. KDE

A couple years ago, I tried both KDE and GNOME and settled on KDE, and have used it since. I haven''t used GNOME much, but I''ve found it to be a perfectly good environment. I just like KDE better, and I have more experience with KDE. I suppose it''s a matter of preference. Test drive them both and pick for yourself. I definitely recommend having both environments on your system, even if you only use one - that way, you can run apps from the other environment without any real problems. I even took the trouble to install the Geramik theme in GNOME to match KDE''s Keramik theme, so GNOME apps look almost exactly like native KDE apps.

BTW, what version of KDE are you running? You definitely want to run at least KDE 3.0, preferably KDE 3.1. The most recent version, KDE 3.1.4, has a lot of performance improvements, especially when compiled with gcc 3.3.
KDE ALL THE WAY!!!!!

Although, admittedly, I have no significant experience with Gnome, so feel free to completely disregard my opinion.

After trying Gnome for a couple of days, I''ve more or less settled on KDE. Part of it, though, is that I keep getting weird problems in Gnome, probably because I installed it months after KDE had a chance at taking over my system. I do find, at least, that now that I have Gnome up and running, Gnome programs (like Anjuta) have less trouble running. I am getting one really weird problem, though (and this occurs in both Gnome and Anjuta). If I make a program and all the files are up to date already, it comes up with the typical "nothing to be done for all" message, but never stops building (not even if I press F12) and it doesn''t allow me to do any more build commands, including execute.

Thanks for everyone''s opinions.
