Power outage during boot messed up my computer!
Can anyone help me? A power outage while I was booting my computer into SuSE Linux 8.2 has caused me many problems. It lists several things as "failed" when booting. And I can''t use USB devices (most importantly, my USB mouse)
Any ideas on how to find out what is wrong?
How can I fix the problem?
Either A: reinstall linux, or B: You''re motherboard has melted.

Try fsck.
This would be it. Thank you 255!

If the file system is in too damaged a state it will not be able to fsck automatically and you''ll have to do it manually. Just make sure that when you login you don''t have / mounted and type "fsck /" and answer Y to the questions while actually reading them to make sure you aren''t doing anything stupid.

I suggest switching to a journaled filesystem(I suggest either ext3 or reiserFS), if you haven''t already, next time you get the chance. It really cuts down on the long list of possible harddrive problems out there.
