Is there any protable DirectPlay (high level library for p2p multiplayer gaming) like network libraries? I know there should be coming HawkNLU.. I''v been waiting over a year and I am sceptical about it ever coming...
There''s ENet (http://enet.cubik.org) that uses a reliable transport mechanism over UDP. It''s well documented and has nice features. Comes with source code.

Looks what I was looking for!

I wouldn''t hold my breath for it. In their attempt to make it DirectPlay-like, they probably stomped on US patent 20020161821 and got a cease-and-desist letter from Microsoft. Who knows...

There''s something called OpenPlay for at least win32 and Mac... I have zero experience with it but my mac programmer friend is very enthusiastic about it. Google for it..
Activision released the networking library used on some of their games under LGPL. Its a lot like direct play.
