so, erm.., what do you mean by "for windows"? Are you trying to install a BSD on VMware or something similar? If I may suggest something I''d advise you to install it just as a standalone, separate system. Messing with VMware''n stuff is just a waste of time.
All BSDs and Linuxes are good for c++ development, they all include (nearly) the same tools. It''s more a matter of personal taste.
As for installation: FreeBSD has very good documantation about the installation and the configuration of the system. NetBSD and OpenBSD seem nice too. It''s up to you to try them out.
