Space Dog Fight game ( CONCEPT ONLY)

Right now its all in my head. But in general it looks like space More specifically im not sure what direction i want the graphics to take. Im thinking along the lines of classic Sci-Fi Shows and movies. (similar to Star wars Battle Star Galactica etc) with alot of asteroid fields, nebulas, debris field, and such. some decen particle affects. I want the ships to have a look like it jumped out of one of those bad 60''s and 70''s shows, but I want the world itself to look like the photo''s from the hubble and such. (and meld the two of course.)

What is everyone''s opinion on capital ships?

The main goal of capital ships (cruisers and carriers) are that they are meant for large guilds. They are an advantage for them, but I want to keep it balanced so that even though its a large guild, its not overpowered. The goal is to keep the resource cost high, and also keep the manning high on them. (sorry folks, no AI for your guns) The vision of them is for a large guild to build them and use them for large scale attacks on the enemy. But in order to use them they have to spend a lot on them, and they have to be able to effectively man them.

Here''s the problem, how do you make it so that the cost in resources and manpower are balanced by the effect that the they have on the battle. I want them to be used, and i know if benefits aren''t good enough for the cost players will just ignore the ship. As it is the capital ships are the only ships able to open up thier own warp into another section. All other ships have to rely on jump gates. This is one advantage, a major one for the carrier as it allows you to transport a high amount of fighters to an area with little to no advanced warning. However what to do to give the battleship an advantage, the main vision for it is two part. Right now the first part is that it provides escort for the carrier, but if a carrier offloads its fighters as soon as it finishes its jump it has all the escort it needs. The second part is that it brings to bear heavy firepower against enemy installations and other captial ships, however with the incorporation of topedo bombers, and smaller missiles on fighters am I rendering the battleship obsolete?

Are there other types of captial ships you''d like to see in the game?
