Debain Question
Sorry, i mispelled debian.
I just want to know what cd images to download(using jigdo). I am a newb in linux so i really need help.
Also, if u think that debian is not suitable for a beginner, then i would like to know which distro would be better for me.
I would advise you to download the minimum that you can (1 CD, or whatever), and have the installer download what it feels that you need if you have the ability to do so (after installation is finished, you apt-get whatever additional packages you feel like).
If you don''t mind reading the occasional manual and "exploring" a bit, Debian is fine even for beginners. The installation is the hardest part for most people, so many IA-32 users use something like Knoppix to install Debian for them ''easily''. Once you get Debian setup and learn a bit about how to do things the "Debian way", maintaining it is easy and it makes a decent desktop, server, or whatever you''d like to use it for.
If you want a distribution that''s more aimed at average users, Red Hat and Mandrake are fine. You can always try Debian later on, if you''d like (conversly, you can try Debian, and if you find it too advanced, try one of the other distributions, or whatever you''d like).
