Does anyone know of any command-line DivX/asf -> mpg layer 3 conversion software that would build and run on a Solaris? (it has to built with normal user privileges). I went looking at OpenDivX''s web site, but they only had a library (libopendivx). Alternatively, I could settle for Windows binaries too. But they must... -> install w/o requiring administrator privilege -> work without requiring the divx codec. Thx.
Have you looked at MEncoder (part of MPlayer)? I''m pretty sure it could do that (I''ve done very similar things with it).

Well, depending on version, DivX is a video for windows codec (DivX 4 is open source, 5 is not). I''m not sure what tools you have on Solaris for that. ASF is harder since it is not an actual compression method, but instead simply a wrapper format like AVI is. ASF uses DirectShow codecs, which makes conversion to anything else very hard (I would doubt there is anything you can do on Solaris, it''s hard enough on Windows). In both cases I doubt you can do much without installing the codecs, people just don''t make special case video conversion tools that *also* work on machines you can''t mess around with.
If I''m not mistaken, XVid is compatible with DivX, and open source...
Newbie programmers think programming is hard.Amature programmers think programming is easy.Professional programmers know programming is hard.
