Sprite Animation
Hi, I was hoping that maybe that you could walk me through animating two sprites, The good one is one that I copied from a tutorial site and recolored (Link from the http://www.spritedomain.net/hero1.htm website), the other one I made in about 45 seconds (not good I know, but I'm hoping that it'll serve the purpose). Any way can you show me how to animate these sprites, and please tell me what program you use to do it. I did these two in "paint" the plain old one in the start menu. I also have milk shape, and photoshope 5.5. I known of Gimp and I'm willing to download that too if it'll help. If you think something else would be better please let me know. Thank you in advance, your helping me out alot.
(ahh, stupid moment here, I can't get it to paste my sprites, how do I do it?
)

Heyo
To animate your sprites what you do is build the animation frame by frame. Then insert each frame into your chosen animator. PSP has one and im pretty sure Photoshop has one. Just insert the sprite frames in cell by cell then click play in your chosen animator and your away.
If you cant find an animator send me an email or reply here and ill try and fix my sprite animator up for public use.
Look around on google for some sprite animators too.

Thanks for replying! When you say build the animation frame by frame, do you mean redraw it the whole thing with a few changes, every time. Becuase I wasn''t sure if you did that or if you just modified the original sprite(like changing the arm a bit then moving to the next frame and change that one a bit too, but the whole time your only using one sprite, unlike drawing say 30). I was looking through Photoshop for the animation palet but I can''t find it, where is it. when I do find it, all I do is put the changed drawing in the next frame right. and I keep on doing that until I get it where I want it.? Any more information would be realy helpful too. Thanks!

Well what i do is draw each individual frame. Each frame is usually based on the standing still or inital position. The i modify that sprite(frame, after saving it of course). I might say.. move the arm then save.
Here is a list of what id do:
1. Create sprite in default position(spr1)
2. Modify "spr1" to the next frame of animation. e.g move an arm and leg for walking.
3. Repeat 2 until i have a complete set, saving each inidivual animation seperately.
4. Just put each of the sprites into the animation editor, in the "frames", and hit play.
Depending on how smooth you want your animations you may want to decrease the amount you move the leg and arm by each frame. And turn a 2 frame animation into a 4 frame animation.
If your still having trouble jump on the irc channel,

or email me.
Let me know how it goes.

Okay, I have all the frames drawn out and ready to go, all I need now is to put them in a animation editor. I would post the sprites but I can't figure out how.
I found some animation editors by making a search, but there are a ton of'em, which should I use
