Headless/Graphical Linux Server running DirectX Game as server?
I''m hoping someone can lead me in the right direction for this. I''ve looked over loads of websites, but still no luck getting things running.
I have an old HP Server set up to run RH8, but the onboard graphics card (and an additional PCI) are not recognized so I''m stuck without graphics. I don''t *need* graphics for the web site, status pages etc... but I would like to run a directx based game in host mode - the host version does not display the graphics of the game, just administration pages which are also available via web URLs.
I''ve tried wine, but the applications fail. Wine documentation seems based on graphics only users.
Can anyone help?
So what you want to do is run a game server for a windows game on a Linux box? Is that right?
Lots of games have dedicated Linux servers, like Half-Life/Counter-Strike. I guess you could check and see if whatever the game is has a Linux server. If they''ve taken the time to write a dedicated server then they''ve probably taken the time to write a Linux dedicated server.
If it''s not just a server but the actual game that is still trying to render stuff, then I dunno what to do. Wine doesn''t work? Tried WineX? And if you''re server''s hardware is unable to render stuff, you may have to hack Wine to trick the game into thinking everything is being rendered when it''s really not, but that''d be lots of trouble.

I like the DARK layout!
Yes, you''ve got it - a windows game running on Linux. It''s a 3rd party Flight Sim host built on DirectX. MS has no FS version on Linux...
As I said, wine appears to be documented for those with a graphic front end. I''ve tried running one applicaiton (DXPort) against wine with no success (Segmentation Fault). Trouble shooting seems, again focused on graphical users.
I''m looking for anyone that has been able to get a directX game running via command line...

You could try WineX, but I think you need an X server to make it work.

- The trade-off between price and quality does not exist in Japan. Rather, the idea that high quality brings on cost reduction is widely accepted.-- Tajima & Matsubara
